Gamified Exploring and Learning about National Monuments
Capital Clues is a mobile app where users can use to explore and learn more about iconic monuments in the United States. I worked together with the creators of this app to develop a refresh
Note: This is still an ongoing project and this current version is not live yet.
Context
Capital Clues is a mobile application designed to gamify visits to national monuments across the United States. The app’s creators sought to enhance its visual appeal and overall user engagement. My contributions focused on improving the user experience, particularly in the selection process for educational courses, to ensure a more intuitive and immersive interaction for users.
Problem
Although the currently live app works and does it's job, the creator found that the the visual element was lacking and that the layout of the informational architecture can be improved.
Goals
Improve the overall user experience of the app
Improvement Goals
Improvement #1
Divide the initial flow of picking a course into multiple steps to simplify the process for the user.
Improvement #2
Make the experience more engaging by creating a mascot for the app. We ultimately decided to go with a squirrel since they are common throughout the United States.
Iterations
Result
After implementing the new brand identity focused on making financial transactions and management easy, fast, and secure, the results were impressive. The app experienced a notable increase in user engagement, with a significant uptick in downloads and active users. The streamlined and user-friendly interface resonated well with the target audience of young professionals, who appreciated the ease of managing their finances on-the-go.
Reflections
This has been a fun project to work on with the developer so far! I've learned a lot about best practices for mobile applications as well as explored different iterations to find the best way to improve the user experience of the overall app. I'm excited to continue working on this project.
Next Steps
Since this is still an ongoing project, here are the next steps that we've for this project. We are currently putting together a user testing group to see how users react to the new layout of the app. After testing, we plan to develop and launch the homepage and onboarding pages and then continue working on the 'treasure hunting' part of the app and then the leaderboard.
